What is an Estimate?

When you bring your vehicle to Select for a repair, before we start, we perform a free preliminary check to determine the overall condition of the vehicle. We may also do specific testing for a fee in order to identify the specific work that needs to be conducted. From our initial check and testing we will provide you with an estimate. The estimate is just that…an approximation of what we believe we need to do to complete the work on your vehicle. If the cost of the repair will be more than the original estimate, we’ll contact you for your authorization before we proceed any further. We always keep you updated!

Select Auto and Truck Repair is the first and only GREEN AUTO REPAIR SHOP in Essex County! Which is recognized by an association of several government agencies and private automotive organizations through the New Jersey Green Automotive Repair Program.

We received the first "green" certification for an Essex County automotive repair shop through New Jersey Green Auto Repair Program (NJGARP). The program was created on Earth Day last year to reward automotive repair facilities in New Jersey that practice and use environmentally friendly technologies in their businesses. NJGARP is a partnership between AAA New Jersey, the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers (NJCAR) and the New Jersey Gasoline C-Store Automotive Association (NJGCA), in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), promoting "green" practices in New Jersey.

Select Auto and Truck Repair is the only auto repair shop in West Orange and Essex County to carry the label "New Jersey Green Automotive Facility." "As a progressive auto repair shop, this step was only natural to us," said Select Auto and Truck Repair owner John McElroy. "We also understand we need to accommodate our customers' concerns and environmental awareness, and this was a good way to promote it, " he added. "In the past decade both consumer and businesses have become more environmentally conscious than ever before, and being able to embrace the green movement can tremendously benefit one's home and business alike."

Preventative maintenance is a great way to save money. Here are some tips and indications for spotting problems before they get worse:

• Watch for leaks or stains under your car. If there is a persistent red oil leak that you are certain is coming from your car, you need to have a Select technician check to see if it is coming from your automatic transmission or your power steering system.
• Check the transmission fluid for color and odor. Most manufacturers require you to check automatic transmission fluid levels when the vehicle is running and on level ground. Automatic transmission fluid is red oil that is transparent. If the fluid looks cloudy or has a burned odor, you should have the fluid replaced.
• Be sensitive to noises, vibrations and shift behavior. If shift points are erratic or you hear noises when shifting, you should have your automatic transmission checked out immediately.
